IVOS

I lieu of a Featured Scambaiter this week I would like to take the time to thank everyone involved with the IVOS. Especially Lacey Evans and Cagney Philips.

At The IVOS

The IVOS is a volunteer run Victim Outreach Center who call victims to intercept and stop scams, and file reports of fraud to various Law Enforcement agencies. They provide these services to many scambaiters within the community. Information is passed to them and they take action. Doing research into the victims and finding the best way to make contact is a common first step. Switching from detective to counselor when they make initial contact with the victim, then finally to tech support when they assist in the removal of malicious software. Many times people are not very receptive to the fact they are being scammed. It takes a lot to break through the fear a scammer has built around someone. Lacey and Cagney accomplish this on a daily basis, saving people their money and their dignity.

Lacey and Cagney are extremely important part to the scambaiting community. Victim contact is a very delicate and complicated interaction. This is a talent that is only improved with experience. This is exactly what Cagney and Lacey provide, and they do it well.

At the IVOS volunteers assist victims during and after a scam. It does not matter if they fell for the scam or not, the volunteers will help them remove malicious software and advise on the steps to secure their information if any was given.

And last but certainly not least, I would like to thank all of the scambaiters who have provided information to the IVOS. Your commitment to the cause will always be recognized my myself and others.
